Debate #1: “Reading in dim light is harmful to your eyes.” Fact or Myth?

Myth: Good lighting does avoid the eye fatigue but dim light does not harm the eyesight

Debate #2: Computers can damage your eyes.” Fact or Myth?

Myth: Working on computers or video display terminals (VDTs) will not harm your eyes. The only thing which happens is that blink rate is less which leads to dryness of the eye and eventually itching

Debate #3: Wearing the wrong kind of eyeglasses damages your eyes.” Fact or Myth?

Myth: Wearing an incorrect number or no eyeglass at all will not damage your eye at all.

Debate #4: Learning disabilities are caused by eye problems.” Fact or Myth?

Myth: Learning disabilities is more of a psychological issue than an eye care problem.

Debate #5: Sitting close to the television can damage children’s eyes.” Fact or Myth?

Myth: Children can focus at shorter distances better than adults. There is no evidence that television viewing from a short distance will harm the children’s eye.

Debate #6: Eating carrots improves your vision.” Fact or Myth?

Myth: Carrots are rich in Vitamin and so are so many other foods. A balanced diet is more important for the health of the eye.

Debate #7: People with weak eyes should avoid reading fine print.” Fact or Myth?

Myth: Just like a camera, eye does not wear out because of reading fine prints or intricate details.

Debate #8: A cataract must be ‘ripe’ before it is removed.” Fact or Myth?

Myth: This was true when modern medical science had still a long way to go. It can be done anytime after it is detected.

Debate #9: Eyes can be transplanted.” Fact or Myth?

Myth: Medical science has no way to transplant whole eyes. The cornea, the clear front part of the eye, has been successfully transplanted for many years. Corneal transplant is sometimes confused with an eye transplant.

Debate #10: Wearing eyeglasses will cause you to become dependent on them.” Fact or Myth?

Myth: Eyeglasses help us to see clearly. We get used to perceive things more clearly and not just become dependent upon the Eyeglasses.
